What Is Lymphatic Drainage Massage?
Lymphatic drainage massage is a gentle, hands-on technique that encourages the lymphatic system — your body’s waste and fluid clearing network — to move fluid out of congested areas. Light, rhythmic strokes help to:
- Move stagnant lymph fluid out of swollen tissue
- Reduce puffiness, heaviness, and post-surgical swelling
- Support immune function and tissue healing
- Calm the nervous system and improve sleep quality
Unlike deep tissue work that presses into muscle, lymphatic drainage uses very light, rhythmic strokes that follow the direction of your lymphatic vessels. The pressure is gentle by design — the lymphatic system sits just beneath the skin, so heavier pressure works against it.

How Lymphatic Massage Helps You Feel Better
Lymphatic drainage massage is often used to address:
- Post-surgical swelling, including after cosmetic or orthopedic surgery
- Swelling and heaviness in the legs, arms, or face
- Lymphedema management alongside your medical team
- Post-injury swelling and slow recovery
- Fatigue, sluggishness, and frequent illness
- Recovery support for active individuals
By encouraging fluid to move out of congested tissue and back into circulation, lymphatic drainage massage helps your body clear swelling and heal more efficiently. Many people notice a sense of lightness, looser clothing around swollen areas, and deeper rest after a session.
A Personalized Approach to Lymphatic Massage at Coquitlam Wellness Center
Your body is unique—and your lymphatic drainage session should be too. At Coquitlam Wellness Center, treatment is never a one-size-fits-all experience.
Your session is tailored based on:
- Your symptoms, surgical history, and goals
- Where fluid is pooling and how the tissue responds
- Any medical guidance from your surgeon or physician
Lymphatic drainage may be used on its own or combined with other therapies, such as registered massage therapy or physiotherapy, to create a more comprehensive and effective recovery plan.

What to Expect During Your Lymphatic Massage Session
Your lymphatic drainage session at our Coquitlam clinic is designed to feel calm, supportive, and intentional.
Here’s what you can expect:
- A brief assessment and discussion of your health history and swelling
- Light, rhythmic strokes that follow your lymphatic pathways
- Very gentle pressure, adjusted for comfort throughout
- A calm treatment environment focused on recovery
Most people feel deeply relaxed afterwards and may need the washroom more often for the rest of the day — that is simply your body clearing the fluid that was moved.
